Pox Meet Chicken, Chicken, Pox

Tanner So Cool

I just looked at my last Tanner post… it was a 13-months. Tanner is now almost 16-months. I should probably start saving for college, time is flying by so fast. Well, the exception to the time flies by thing is seven days of chickenpox… worst week ever for Tanner and all who surrounded him.

Life with Tanner in a glance:

-Favorite words are “Hey Cow” (pronounced a cohow), “Here Kitty Kitty” (pronounced he kit kit), “Paw Paw”, and “Drink” (pronounced dink), and “Bye”

-Favorite foods are hot dogs, Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal, toast with jam, fruit smoothies, and pickles

-Hobbies include putting up groceries, playing blocks, taking walks, terrorizing the cats, and watching Mikey Mouse Clubhouse

-Tanner can now reach most light switches, climb onto the coffee table, and pull the electrical socket covers out

-He gives hugs and kisses, and will actually sit down for 10 minutes at a time

-Tanner’s head circumference is starting to curve on the growth chart, but is still in the >97% tile

So, just for my own memory, a little recap of the chickenpox eposide:

Wednesday, September 28: Phone call from babysitter letting me know that one of the other kids at daycare had come down with chickenpox. Uh, oh.

Thursday, September 29: Tanner regularly schedule well-child appointment. Pediatrician says to go ahead with scheduled vaccines and adds in the chickenpox vaccine which apparently can be administered after exposure to help reduce the severity of the breakout.

Friday, September 30: Temp of 103. No spots. Reaction from shots? Chickenpox? Also has a head cold.

Saturday, October 1: AM. What are those spots?

Sunday, October 2: Chickenpox. And another weird rash from head to toe (Reaction from shots? Never confirmed nor found to be not true.) Very fussy baby. Gave him Benedryl which made him a very fussy and very hyper baby.

Monday & Tuesday October 3 – 4: Tanner refuses to sleep and is miserable and hyper. Discontinue Red 40 ingestion. Oatmeal baths. Family members take turns driving Tanner around in the car to get him to sleep.

Wednesday, October 5: Weird rash disappears.

Thursday, October 6: Chickenpox start to fade. Sleep returns.

Updated! I started this post a couple days ago and haven’t published it yet, but now have a new update. Tanner has a new rash! Amy and I took him to the pediatrician who, after a 5 second examination declared eczema. Not convinced, we followed-up with a dermatologist who thinks its an exposure rash. Maybe a reaction to the shots, maybe to an illness, maybe to something else in his environment. Best thing to do a this point is wait it out and hopefully it goes away soon. (…exploring other pediatrician options too since I have left the last couple of appointments feeling dismissed.)

Until next time!
